Hello a very difficult question to answer however here goes the Golden Mealy bug we think came in from New Zealand  went with plants to a Meconopsis Enthusiast who sold plants to others thus spreading the problem the Mealy bug is easily recognised will attack other plants as well beware do not buy or take any plants from unknown sources sorry but I risk to name where this came from be careful cheers.

I have been trying a higher percentage of Perlite for my young seedlings so far they look ok I think this helps air flow around seedlings and holds moisture better will see later if all goes well,

I have been busy recently lifting and splitting Meconopsis weather has been perfect for this with lots of rain and cooler days I avoid the few warm days we have had. I pot some plants for sale then prepare a new bed by adding leaf mould any composts we have and a little fertiliser . I am also trying some new areas by making up ridges like potato rows to plant on top of these winter here very wet and soil like porridge I hope these ridges will give more drainage

« on: February 09, 2017, 04:20:15 PM »
Have a few seeds germinating M. grandis and MGS 3  I now add a good layer of Perlite mixed with the compost on top layer have found this helps prevent damping off also add to pricking out mix. Hard frost and snow today

Hello Alan many thanks for these details I do find this interesting as several G.S. group plants set some seed here your advice to keep such plants for your own use is very helpful and yes we do have many well established plants that have been around  for sale  these have been named and approved by The Meconopsis Group gardeners should be encouraged to select those the best clones cheers.
